AIMA AHOY meeting 14th of February 2024 at 6.30 pm AEDT

  • Heritage South Australia's efforts to stabilise the South Australian wreck continue with the involvement of a group also seeking to rehabilitate kelp in the area. Sandbags containing kelp seeds are to be deposited at the site in an effort to combat environmental risks as well as damage from a stormwater drain that has been impacting the shipwreck and local kelp population. Apologies, I don't know the group name to link them - please share with us if you do!
  • The Flinders University Australia Awards Fellows from the Asia Pacific region are enjoying their time in Adelaide. The Fellows have received intensive units on legislation, policy and submerged landscapes, and are now on a field school at Mt Dutton Bay. There has been some great knowledge sharing between their respective countries. The Fellows will also complete the Flinders scientific diving micro-credential and a conservation practicum.
  • The AJMA V47 for 2023 is soon to be released. The Editor is also welcoming articles for V48 2024! Read the author guidelines and email Jeremy at publications@aima-underwater.org.au to enquire or submit your paper. At the AHOY meeting we discussed ways to attract more papers, including updating the AIMA website Publications page to provide easier access to recent and past issues and to show our SCOPUS ranking (which AIMA should receive very soon). Improvements are coming.
  • We discussed feedback to reduce online registration costs for the upcoming AIMA Conference in Auckland, as well as the types of bursaries and financial support AIMA could offer to assist with in-person attendance and international online attendance. Exec will approach Council to discuss different ideas.
